Classic Soviet Cars: ZAZ 968A Zaporozets
The ZAZ-968 was produced from 1973 to 1979 by the Zaporozhian Automobile Factory - an iconic design which came in some eye-wateringly bright colour schemes. From 1975 the ‘A’ version was released with the same body as its predecessor but with an improved brake system and better front seats.
1:43 scale die-cast model. The name 'Zaporozets' comes from the Russian for Cossack (particularly from the Zaporizhan Sich of the Ukraine), however if shortened to 'Zapor' it means "constipation" in Russian! Its other nickname was "Kuprius" or "hunchback".
ZAZ produced amongst the cheapest cars available in the USSR, specifically designed for the masses and boasting an immense 41 hp engine. The cars were also very popular and fondly remembered in the Baltic states and Greece.
